Indications |
|
Fluvac EHV 4/1 Plus is
recommended for vaccination of healthy horses as an aid in the prevention of
respiratory diseases caused by EHV-1 and EHV-4 viruses and equine influenza due
to types A1 and A2 viruses. |
| |
|
|
|
Composition |
|
Fluvac EHV 4/1 Plus is a
killed virus vaccine consisting of equine herpes-virus 1 and equine herpes-virus
4 (both forms of equine rhinopneumonitis virus), and types A1 and
multiple strains of A2 equine influenza viruses (including Kentucky
92),
Fluvac EHV 4/1 Plus is grown
and prepared on a stable cell line substrate. This highly refined process
further eliminates foreign protein material associated with adverse reactions in
the horse and yields a more consistently pure vaccine. The virus components are
inactivated, concentrated and standardized to provide optimal immunizing
efficiency. An adjuvant is added to enhance the immune response and to ensure
the proper rate of absorption following inoculation.

General
Information |
|
A short duration of
serviceable immunity occurs after EHV-1 or EHV-4 infection or vaccination. It is
necessary to maintain a high level of immunity to adequately protect against
upper respiratory tract infection and subsequent exposure to field strains of
virus.
The vaccine is killed virus
preparation, and may be administered at any time to horses or mares that may be
moved from the premises, or that may be exposed to infection.

Administration
and Dosage |
|
Horses,
inject 1ml dose intramuscularly using aseptic technique. Administer a second 1ml
dose 4 to 6 weeks after the first dose. For young horses a third 1ml dose should
be administered 4 to 6 weeks after the second dose. A 1ml booster dose should be
given annually, when exposure is likely, or at any time epidemic conditions
exist. Mild exercise to promote absorption is recommended for one week after
injection. |

|
Caution |
|
Store in dark at 20
to 70C (350 to 450F). AVOID FREEZING. Shake
vigorously to assure uniform suspension of the precipitate. Use entire contents
when first opened. When used according to instructions, it is unusual for
reactions to appear, other than those expected with any vaccination of horses;
for example, occasional temporary local swelling. Do not vaccinate within 21
days before slaughter, in case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer
epinephrine.
Thimerosal, neomycine,
polymyxin B and amphotericin B added as preservatives.
